Courses offered for continuing education credit for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants in Illinois must be approved by ILOTA or AOTA and its affiliates or APTA and IPTA or AOTA approved providers or ASHA and ISHA or Accredited Colleges and Universities or the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations. Sponsors offering courses that have been approved by the ILOTA may include the following statement in course publicity and must include it on course certificates issued to participants: “This course has been approved for continuing education hours for occupational therapy practitioners by the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association.” 2. The ILOTA Continuing Education Approval Committee is the body designated by the ILOTA Board of Directors to certify courses meeting the Criteria for Continuing Education Offerings established by the Board. 3. There is a non-refundable filing fee for each individual course offered in Illinois per year. The course may be offered multiple times during the calendar year, providing it maintains the same itinerary and schedule. Each individual course requires a separate application and fee. A listing in ILOTA communications will be provided with each paid course fee. Any applicable payment should be made to the Illinois Occupational Therapy Association and must accompany the application. 4. The Committee will make a decision based on information supplied and contact the course coordinator if further information is required. Incomplete applications result in a delay of the process. It is the responsibility of the course coordinator to supply the necessary documents. 5. The ILOTA Continuing Education Approval Committee Chairperson will notify the course coordinator of the decision via e-mail. If the sponsor prefers, a paper copy can be sent for an additional $5.00. 6. The total time elapsed from receipt of the complete CE approval application in the ILOTA Office to sending notification of the decision to the course coordinator should be no more than four weeks. If additional information is requested from the course coordinator, additional time may be needed. Annual Fee Schedule:Checks should be made payable to: Illinois Occupational Therapy Association. Approval letters and certificates will not be sent until payment is received in full, including any additional fees.
Additional Fees: Rush processing fee $50: If the course application is postmarked less than 4 weeks before the first day of the course, a rush processing fee will be applied. Mailing fee: The Committee will provide certificate and letter of approval via e-mail unless specifically requested on application. If paper copies are preferred, an additional $5.00 fee applies. Processing fee: A $25 processing fee will be assessed to the sponsor if the course is denied. The Committee will contact the sponsor if application is incomplete or additional information is needed. If the course still does not meet requirements for approval, ILOTA will return payment and retain a $25 fee.
7. CE Guidelines -- One (1) CE hour’s credit is awarded for each contact hour, with one contact hour being defined as 50 minutes of instruction. After completion of the initial CE hour, credit may be given in one-half hour increments.
8. Upon completion of the course, the auditor will review participant evaluations, fill out a course evaluation provided by the sponsor, and complete the On-Site CE Evaluation Checklist. The auditor submits these to the CEAC Chairperson. The Chairperson will send a copy of the evaluation form and checklist to the Course Coordinator within one week. The original evaluation forms are filed in the central office with CE Approval Application materials. |
